What is the Freeway Service Patrol? | |
The Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) is a roving team of tow trucks that travel on selected Riverside County freeways during peak commute hours to assist motorists with car trouble. Funding for the FSP comes from Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) and Caltrans.

What if I have car trouble? | |
If you are able to, move your vehicle to a median or shoulder out of traffic lanes. Call 911 if you are still in lanes; if you are able to move your vehicle to the median or shoulder call CHP Dispatch at (909) 428-5400 and stay inside your vehicle with your seat belt on until help arrives. If you are calling outside of FSP operating hours or coverage areas, the CHP dispatch will connect you to Rotational Tow service (standard rates apply).

Why is there a Freeway Service Patrol? | |
RCTC and Caltrans, in partnership with the California Highway Patrol (CHP), want to keep the freeways moving. This program is part of an overall plan to improve transportation throughout Riverside County. RCTC also operates and manages other motorist aid programs, such as freeway call boxes. | |

How can I recognize the Freeway Service Patrol? | |
All of the tow trucks are white and have the Freeway Service Patrol logo on the doors. The drivers wear blue uniforms and yellow safety vests with the same FSP logo. | |
When is the Freeway Service Patrol on duty? | |
Service is provided Monday through Friday (except on holidays): Monday - Thursday - 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday - 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. | |
Are Freeway Service Patrol drivers certified? | |
Yes. Drivers receive certification after completing a CHP training program. | |
Can the Freeway Service Patrol tow me to a private repair facility or to my home? | |
No. The Freeway Service Patrol drivers can tow vehicles only to CHP-designated locations off the freeway. Also, Freeway Service Patrol drivers cannot recommend service companies or repair/body shops. | |
Can I pay or tip the tow-truck driver? | |
No. Drivers are not allowed to accept any compensation including tips or gratuities. |
